Sana'a: The October 14 Football Tournament for university students from the southern and eastern provinces currently studying in the capital Sana'a kicked off on Tuesday, in celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the October 14 Revolution.

According to Yemen News Agency, the three-day tournament features 11 teams representing various universities in the capital Sana'a. At the opening ceremony, Head of the Political and Foreign Relations Committee in the Shura Council, Engineer Lutfi al-Jarmouzi, congratulated the revolutionary and political leadership and the Yemeni people on the anniversary of the October 14 Revolution. Al-Jarmouzi emphasized the importance of the tournament in embedding the revolution's values in the minds of the younger generations and in commemorating the struggle against British colonialism.

He also highlighted the need to continue organizing such events to strengthen unity and solidarity among Yemenis, despite the current challenges imposed by a new occupying force that, he said, will be defeated by the will and struggle of a united Yemeni people. Also speaking at the event, which was attended by Shura Council members Ali al-Batra and Jamal Sayel, was guest speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Sheikh. He underscored the significance of the occasion and the sacrifices of freedom fighters in liberating occupied areas from British rule, culminating in the glorious October Revolution and national independence.
