Hajjah: Field teams in Hajjah province have successfully treated 5,862 livestock as part of a national emergency campaign against foot-and-mouth disease, targeting several districts where the disease was detected.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources led the campaign in the districts of Abs, Khiran al-Muharraq, Aslam, Bakil al-Mir, Shaha, Qafal Shammar, Kaidana, Bani Qais, and Mustaba. The efforts aimed to curb the spread of the disease, with a week-long operation that managed to treat 1,759 heads of cattle, 2,345 goats, and 1,758 sheep.
The treatment regimen involved administering three doses over three days, including antibiotics, disinfectants, and anti-inflammatories, alongside vitamins and nutritional supplements to bolster the immunity and resistance of the livestock against the disease.
Faris al-Ayani, the director of animal health and epidemiological surveillance in the province, highlighted the campaign’s comprehensive approach, which included veterinary guidance for breeders. This guidance covered methods of isolation, prevention, and managing infected cases, complemented by field meetings to educate breeders on prevention and treatment strategies.
The campaign also emphasized the importance of quarantining infected animals to prevent further spread, provided guidelines on healthy nutrition to enhance livestock immunity, and issued warnings against transporting infected animals to markets.
