Sana'a: The Rehabilitation and Reform Authority has initiated its Ramadan Quran memorization competition for inmates at the Central Reformatory and pretrial detention centers in Sana'a Governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the seven-day event features 59 inmates competing in various categories, including memorizing the entire Quran, and sections of 15 parts, 10 parts, and 5 parts. This initiative aligns with the Authority's programs and follows the directives of revolutionary and political leadership to focus on reformatories, aiming to transform them into rehabilitation centers guided by the Quranic vision.
During the first round, a judging panel led by Sheikh Hilal al-Kulaibi evaluated the inmates' recitations. The competition is being aired on Al-Iman TV across four episodes. The panel commended the participants' memorization skills, recitation, and mastery of Tajweed rules, expressing gratitude to the Authority's leadership for supporting the inmates and providing necessary resources.
At the conclusion of the first round, the panel distributed monetary and incentive prizes to the participants. Brigadier General Ali Abu Kahla, Director General of the Central Reformatory in the capital, acknowledged the efforts of Major General Ismail Al-Muayyad, who heads the Rehabilitation and Reform Department at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, for their dedication to Quran memorization programs and the rehabilitation of inmates.
He highlighted that these efforts help prepare individuals capable of promoting Quranic culture within correctional facilities and in society after their release. He noted that the Quran competition is a commendable goal, particularly within prisons, as it fosters a love for the Holy Quran, reduces crime, and transforms correctional facilities into centers of faith-based education.
