Moscow: Recent data, based on Sputnik's calculations and a review of official statistics from national statistical agencies, showed on Saturday that Russia recorded the lowest unemployment rate among the G20 countries at the end of the first quarter of this year.
According to Yemen News Agency, Russia's unemployment rate remained stable at 2.2% at the end of March, virtually unchanged from the end of last year, thus maintaining its position as the lowest among the world's largest economies. Mexico followed closely with an unemployment rate of 2.4%, while Japan and South Korea shared third place, both recording a rate of 2.7%.
Japan experienced a slight increase in its unemployment rate from 2.6% in the previous quarter, whereas South Korea saw a reduction from 4% last December. Meanwhile, South Africa stood out as the only G20 country with a double-digit unemployment rate, reaching 31.4%, making it the highest globally.
The remaining economies within the G20 displayed varying unemployment rates, with Turkey at 8.1% and France at 7.7%. In mid-April, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the stability of his country's labor market, highlighting that the unemployment rate in Russia was currently around 2.1%.
