Sana'a: The subcommittee of the Sana'a Water Basin convened today under the leadership of Sana'a Mayor Dr. Hamoud Abad to assess various requests related to the drilling and deepening of wells, as well as maintenance works and deferred applications concerning basin areas.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee's meeting was attended by key figures including deputies from the Water Resources and Facilities Authority, Eng. Abdulkarim Al-Sufyani, Sana'a Governorate officials Yahya Jamaan and Faris al-Khali, and directors Redan Al-Hadi and Eng. Mustafa Al-Shahari of the Authority's branches in Sana'a and the Capital Secretariat. They reviewed 48 applications for new well drilling, maintenance work, deferred requests, and appeals.
The meeting, which included directors of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in both the Capital Secretariat and Sana'a, and leaders from the Rural Water Projects Authority and agricultural sectors, resulted in the approval of several applications while others were rejected per the committee's recommendations. Some applications were postponed due to non-compliance with technical and legal standards, with plans to conduct field inspections for further evaluation.
Dr. Abad highlighted the necessity for enhanced coordination among relevant authorities, emphasizing teamwork and adherence to laws to protect the Sana'a Basin and its groundwater resources. He called for responsibility in preventing the depletion of the basin, curbing random drilling, and enforcing regulations against unauthorized activities.
Additionally, Redan Al-Hadi provided an overview of the files submitted within the governorate's jurisdiction, detailing licenses for well drilling and deepening, and deferred applications. Eng. Al-Shahari also presented files from the Capital Secretariat concerning similar requests, underscoring the legal and technical considerations involved.
