Sana'a: A meeting in the capital Sana'a, attended by potato seed producers, the Secretary-General of Amran governorate Saleh al-Makhlous, and Dr. Ibrahim al-Serraji, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, reviewed strategies to support and encourage potato seed production, which has now reached self-sufficiency.
According to Yemen News Agency, participants discussed measures to prevent the import of foreign potato seeds, protect local producers, and address challenges such as market flooding from imported seeds that threaten domestic production.
Officials emphasized coordination between authorities, support for farmers through agricultural cooperatives, and the success of local tissue-cultured seed production, which is disease-resistant and of higher quality than imported varieties, aligning with national food security goals.
