Sana'a: Sana'a Water Basin Mini-Committee, led by Capital Sana'a Mayor Dr. Hamoud Ubad, gathered to assess requests for drilling and deepening wells within the basin, addressing both new applications and those requiring further consideration.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee reviewed a total of 58 new well drilling requests, alongside ten postponed requests and 20 reconsideration cases. The meeting saw participation from the Water Resources and Facilities Authority, the Sana'a governorate, and the Capital Sana'a. Decisions were made to approve or reject applications based on technical and legal criteria, with some applications postponed due to unmet conditions.
Mayor Dr. Ubad highlighted the committee's dedication to ensuring accuracy in processing these applications to safeguard the Sana'a Basin's water resources and prevent their depletion. He underscored the importance of strict enforcement against drilling violations and enhanced oversight of drilling rig owners to curb unlicensed activities, while also defining the geographical boundaries of the Sana'a Basin.
Dr. Ubad pointed out that violations of regulations against random drilling are a pressing concern, emphasizing the prohibition on drilling or deepening new wells, including dug and hand-dug wells. Engineer Mustafa al-Shahari, Director of the Sana'a Water Resources Authority branch, presented the submitted files, offering details on locations, justifications, legality, and technical remarks.
