Signing Document to Halt Urban Expansion on Agricultural Lands in Yarim, Ibb

Yarim: A document was signed in Ezzat Aras in the Yarim district, Ibb province, to prevent urban sprawl on agricultural lands. This initiative came during an expanded meeting held in the directorate, which included the Secretary General of the Agricultural Cooperative Union, Engineer Muhammad al-Qahum, local council leadership, the mobilization and judicial authority, and several social figures in the directorate.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting addressed concerns related to the danger of urban sprawl and construction on agricultural lands. It emphasized the importance of signing a document aimed at limiting this phenomenon, which threatens extensive areas of agricultural lands.

During the meeting, the Secretary General of the Agricultural Cooperative Union highlighted the threats posed by urban expansion on agricultural lands in bottoms and valleys, warning about its impact on agriculture’s future. The director of the directorate, Mohammed al-Khaled, stressed the importance of curbing urban sprawl and noted that the local council has identified specific areas and valleys where construction is prohibited.

Judge Abdulwali Allaw, the Deputy Prosecutor of Yarim and Al-Radma, discussed the damages resulting from urban expansion at the expense of agricultural lands. He pointed out its negative effects on environmental and economic levels and the loss of income sources for families dependent on agriculture.
