Sana'a: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor concluded on Tuesday a training program for field inspection teams in occupational safety and health, held under the slogan 'Together for Workers' Safety and a Safe, Productive Work Environment.' The program was designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of national cadres, aiming to strengthen partnerships and volunteer initiatives in workplace safety.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Ministry reported that the program prepares graduates to join national evaluation and awareness teams. These teams are tasked with improving workplace safety, supporting employers and workers, and reducing risks in line with government priorities. The training program included 33 inspectors from Sana'a City and Sana'a Governorate, along with representatives from Civil Defense, the Standards Authority, and the Chamber of Commerce, who underwent four days of intensive training covering 22 applied modules.
Officials noted that the program equips inspectors for upcoming field visits to 50 industrial facilities, where they will promote safety standards. Speakers at the event praised the collaborative efforts between the Ministry, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Yemen Labor Union, emphasizing that occupational safety is an economic investment that protects human capital and supports sustainable productivity.
The Chamber of Commerce expressed support for the Ministry's plan for widespread field inspections. These inspections will focus on awareness, self-assessment, and corrective measures, with safety inspectors acting as advisors to help prevent risks. The Ministry and its partners reiterated their commitment to the tripartite partnership between government, employers, and workers, and announced preparations for the first National Conference on Occupational Safety and Health scheduled for April.
The Labor Union highlighted the significance of ensuring workers' rights, including the review of wage and insurance systems, and addressing workplace risks. This focus comes in response to recent increases in occupational injuries and illnesses, underscoring the necessity of the Ministry's initiatives.
