Specialized Criminal Court Permits Evidence Presentation in Armed Gang Case; Espionage Defendants Convicted

Baghdad:Capital Municipality The Specialized Criminal Court in the Capital Municipality has granted permission for the prosecution to present evidence in a high-profile case involving an armed gang accused of murders and arson in the Capital Municipality and Al-Dhale' governorate.

According to Yemen News Agency, the court session, led by Judge Abdullah Al-Hamzi and attended by prosecutor Judge Mujahid Al-Shabibi, addressed the jurisdictional challenges raised by the defendants. The court reviewed the case file and determined that the indictment encompassed multiple incidents occurring at various times and locations. It was deemed necessary to hear the evidence before deciding on jurisdictional objections.

The prosecution claims that the defendants, charged with forming an armed gang in November 2025, aimed to attack citizens and disrupt public peace. The defendants allegedly targeted the homes and a hotel of victims in Dhahban, Taiz Street, and Haziz, resulting in fatalities and attempted murder. Additional charges include material damage, such as vehicle arson and bombing of a water well, and unlicensed possession of weapons and explosives.

In another case, the court convicted seven individuals of espionage and aiding the enemy, specifically collaborating with the Saudi-Emirati coalition. The first defendant received a death sentence by firing squad, while others received prison terms of five to seven years. Convicted individuals were ordered to sever ties with aggression forces and adhere to good conduct. Confiscated explosives and mobile phones were directed to the state's treasury.

The court also mandated rehabilitation programs for the convicts, aiming at their reintegration into society during imprisonment, coordinated by the Public Prosecution, Cultural Department, and Prison Authority.
