Taiz: The four-day training and introductory workshop on urban planning and settlements, organized by the local authority, concluded in Taiz Governorate. The workshop featured participation from 40 individuals representing the Land Authority, the Public Works Sector, and community components from the targeted locations.
According to Yemen News Agency, the workshop aimed to prepare 37 detailed model urban plans covering an area of 2,532 hectares in the new city of Taiz. This initiative seeks to reduce informal construction and community conflicts while promoting investment, transparency, and justice during both preparation and implementation phases.
The workshop participants recommended that professionals working in planning and settlements engage in field technical work across the 37 targeted locations, completing necessary surveys and field inspections. This approach is intended to prevent exceeding the specified ceiling for document submissions, thereby enabling the planning team to begin drafting initial plans.
Further recommendations encouraged property owners and rights holders to register their documents with the Settlement Committee within the remaining announced timeframe. The Settlement Committee was urged to obtain the necessary documentation to carry out field tasks related to initial valuation, adhering to the specified timeline in the implementation plan.
Participants highlighted the need for activating local communication with central leadership responsible for supervising planning and settlement activities. This would enable Taiz to serve as a model in urban planning, benefiting all governorates.
The recommendations stressed the importance of adhering to legal requirements in the implementation of planning and settlement activities, emphasizing the principles of justice, transparency, and publicity. They also called for community involvement at all stages of preparation and implementation to overcome obstacles promptly.
Additionally, there was a call for relevant offices and institutions to prepare studies for service sites within the targeted planning areas. These studies should include a written, timed plan not exceeding one month and complete the sub-legal frameworks at the governorate level.
