Taiz: Acting governor of Taiz Ahmed al-Masawa, alongside Assistant Commander of the Fourth Military Region Brigadier General Mohammed al-Khalid and Director General of Provincial Security Brigadier General Shukri Mehyoub, has initiated the "Less Plastic, Better Life" campaign.

According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative operates under the slogan "Reducing Plastic Pollution, Because Together We Can Ensure a Better, Healthier Future." Organized by the General Authority for Environment and Climate Change Office in cooperation with the Cleaning and Improvement Fund, this week-long campaign will cover the governorate center and its districts, focusing on mitigating the harmful effects of plastic waste on soil.

During the launch, Acting Governor al-Masawa explained that the campaign will be executed through a specialized contractor responsible for collecting plastic waste and transporting it to the capital, Sana'a, for recycling. This strategy seeks to avoid the burning of plastic in public areas or landfills, contributing to the creation of green spaces within the governorate.

Al-Masawa emphasized the importance of public participation in the campaign to create a plastic-free environment and enhance green spaces, which are vital for natural restoration and addressing the global warming crisis.

Director General of the Environment Authority Office Abdo al-Bahr highlighted that the campaign coincides with World Environment Day, amid the ongoing heatwave and global warming challenges impacting the natural environment. He encouraged citizens to support the field teams in eliminating harmful materials to improve daily life and enhance the beauty of nature.

Director General of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund Talal al-Sufi remarked that improvement teams would collaborate with the General Authority for Environment to tackle this issue, which affects the aesthetic appeal of the area. He also called for citizen cooperation with public cleaning teams.
