Taiz: Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemned on Tuesday the horrific crime committed by Saudi-backed mercenaries who targeted the vicinity of Musab bin Umair School in al-Masader village, Tubaseheah subdistrict, Sabr al-Mawadim directorate, with direct artillery shelling.
According to Yemen News Agency, a statement issued by the network explained that the shelling resulted in the killing of the child, Buruj Ayman Muhammad Abdullah, and injuring the student, Abdulrahman Ahmed Abdulkarim.
The network indicated that targeting civilian infrastructure, educational facilities, and children represents a moral and humanitarian collapse, reflecting a disregard for all international and humanitarian conventions, norms, and laws.
The network noted that this crime adds to the systematic violations and crimes committed by the Saudi-led coalition and its mercenaries against children and the education sector in the province over the past 12 years.
The statement emphasized that protecting children, schools, and educational facilities is an absolute priority that cannot be compromised under any circumstances. It stressed that targeting civilians constitutes a full-fledged war crime that necessitates accountability and prosecution.
The network called on human rights and humanitarian organizations to document evidence and testimonies according to professional and legal standards to ensure that perpetrators do not escape punishment, as these crimes are not subject to any statute of limitations.
The network held the Saudi-led coalition and its mercenaries fully responsible for this crime and all similar crimes committed and still being committed against the people of the province.
The network called on the United Nations, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and organizations concerned with children's rights to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities to stop these violations and establish serious documentation and prosecution mechanisms to activate the principle of accountability.
The network emphasized its continued field efforts to monitor and document all violations against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Taiz, employing a human rights methodology based on international standards to protect victims' rights and ensure justice.
Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms affirmed that protecting children during armed conflicts is an enduring humanitarian and legal obligation, and that the victims' blood will remain documented evidence requiring legal action until justice is served.
