Taiz: Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms condemned the crime committed by the Saudi forces, which targeted an inhabited home in Maqbana District, Taiz governorate, leading to injuries among women and children and causing near-total destruction of the house.
According to Yemen News Agency, the network described the Saudi targeting of homes, civilians, and civilian infrastructure as a violation of international humanitarian law. The network's field monitoring teams documented the airstrike on the home of citizen Abdu Muhammad Bajash al-Baladi in the Mahalla area of the Akhdou' Asfal sub-district, which resulted in injuries to Fawzia Muhammad Shaddad al-Hammadi, 47, Bunyan Abdu Bajash, 35, and the child Saja' Abdu Abdu Bajash, 15, in addition to significant damage to the house.
The statement from the network highlighted that the house was located in a civilian area with no military presence, asserting that the attack violated the principles of armed conflict, particularly the principle of distinction. This principle requires a clear separation between legitimate military targets and civilian objects, and criminalizes the targeting of civilian homes.
The network stressed that the attack constitutes a war crime and called for legal accountability for those responsible for planning and executing the strike. The Saudi forces were held fully responsible for the material and human impact of the bombing.
Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms urged the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to condemn the Saudi actions targeting civilian areas in Taiz and other regions. It called for collecting evidence and testimonies to support criminal prosecution, ensuring justice for victims and deterring future violations. The network emphasized the responsibility of the United Nations and the Human Rights Council in addressing the repeated crimes against the Yemeni people.
