Taiz: During 2025, Taiz Governorate witnessed a developmental and service-oriented renaissance that reflected the active presence of state institutions in the field of work and achievement, particularly in connection with major service and strategic projects-most notably the opening of Taiz General Hospital, regarded as the most significant medical accomplishment for the governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the implementation of vital development projects accelerated across various state sectors within a well-planned developmental vision that meets current demands and future challenges, contributing to improving services and strengthening the foundations of stability and sustainable development. This strategic project implementation and developmental momentum comes as a translation of the directives of the Revolution Leader, Sayyid Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and the instructions of the President of the Supreme Political Council, alongside the efforts, follow-up, and supervision of Acting Governor Ahmed al-Massawi.
Despite the exceptional conditions the country is facing due to the repercussions of aggression and blockade, the leadership of the local authority in the governorate has sought to translate revolutionary and political directives into tangible reality that addresses citizens' concerns and meets their service and developmental needs, while activating community initiatives and establishing associations in cooperation with all relevant bodies, institutions, local councils, tribal sheikhs, and social figures.
Today, Taiz Governorate is experiencing a pivotal and bright phase in its modern history, reflected through a wide package of completed and ongoing projects in the fields of roads, infrastructure, water and sanitation, health, agricultural development, and community initiatives-opening new horizons for growth and construction and laying the foundations for comprehensive and sustainable development whose positive impacts have reached various districts.
According to a report issued by the governorate, developmental and service sectors witnessed a significant qualitative shift last year in both performance indicators and levels of achievement-foremost in the agricultural development sector, within efforts to enhance food security and achieve self-sufficiency, support community initiatives as a key partner in development, and improve health services.
The dedicated efforts of the governorate's leadership and the direct follow-up of Acting Governor Ahmed al-Massawi culminated in the completion of Taiz General Hospital-an advanced medical facility and strategic milestone for the health sector in the governorate-designed to provide medical and treatment services to patients from the governorate and neighboring areas.
According to the report, the health sector achieved unprecedented accomplishments, including the opening of Taiz General Hospital at a total cost of USD 2.795 million funded jointly by the local authority and Doctors Without Borders (Netherlands). The facility includes emergency, pediatrics, nutrition, maternity, isolation, internal medicine, outpatient clinics, orthopedics, dialysis, and a central laboratory.
The report noted that as part of efforts to enhance the health sector, an intensive care unit was opened at Taiz General Hospital at a cost of 65 million riyals, and the Badia Health Center in Mawiyah District was completed at a cost of 30 million riyals funded jointly by the local authority and the community.
The report explained that the agricultural sector ranked as a top priority in the plans and programs of the local authority in Taiz, and that the governorate's leadership devoted considerable attention to this sector throughout the past year, focusing on the implementation of the Regional Agricultural Research Station funded by the local authority and the Agricultural Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit.
A seed bank was established at a cost of USD 60,000 to enhance agricultural development and food security efforts, while 30 maize shredders and locally manufactured feed grinders were distributed at a total cost of 13 million riyals.
Within the framework of economic empowerment projects, the report added that 550 heads of cattle were distributed to productive families in Khadir, al-Ta'aziyah, Maqbana, and Mawiyah districts at a cost of 300 million riyals. Solar power systems were also distributed to 18 farmers in Maqbana District at a cost of 25 million riyals.
The report confirmed that 2,300 hectares of agricultural land were reclaimed and protected in Maqbana District, in addition to strengthening more than 13 agricultural cooperative associations across various districts and distributing 300 feed shredders in al-Ta'aziyah District, benefiting 1,200 families.
It added that agricultural cooperative service centers were opened in al-Ta'aziyah, Khadir, Mawiyah, and Maqbana Districts at a cost of 24 million riyals, and that maize harvesting was launched in al-Ruba'i area in al-Ta'aziyah District with a yield of 9 tons.
A rainwater barrier was implemented in Najd Marah in al-Shuwifah area in Khadir District at a cost of 100 million riyals, and a dairy processing center was constructed at a cost of USD 85,000 funded by the Social Fund for Development.
The report included various road projects completed during the past year in Taiz Governorate-most notably the asphalting and completion of additional works on the Martyr Zaid Sawih Street (30 meters wide) at a cost exceeding 314 million riyals, in addition to lighting works on the northern entrance road leading to Aden Roundabout.
The Barh - al-Nubah - al-Kadhah - Maqbana road was opened and paved with a total paved area of 6,900 square meters. The September 21 Road linking al-Qurf and Street 60 was asphalted at a cost of 263 million riyals. Several roads were also rehabilitated and maintained in al-Ta'aziyah, Khadir, Mawiyah, Sharab al-Rawnah, Hayfan, and Sabr al-Mawadem Districts, funded by the local authority, the community, and central intervention units.
The report highlighted the completion of the second and third phases of the Economic Empowerment Project targeting 75 families of martyrs and missing persons at a total cost of 55 million riyals.
Economic empowerment programs benefiting 374 men and women were also implemented at a cost of 344 million riyals within projects of the General Authority for Zakat.
As part of the leadership's focus on district-level development, foundation stones were laid, service and development projects were inaugurated in Sharab al-Salam District at a cost of USD 2.514 million.
The report noted that road paving, classroom construction, water and electricity projects were implemented in several areas with joint funding from the local authority and the community. Additional agricultural and service projects were inaugurated in Maqbana District at a cost exceeding 150 million riyals, alongside the launch of distributing 15,000 bags of cement to support community initiatives.
The governorate leadership gave considerable attention to electricity and water sectors to alleviate citizens' suffering-especially amid ongoing repercussions of aggression and blockade-by reactivating electrical service in Sabr al-Mawadem District and operating two transformers in al-Muqashirah and al-Simkar in al-Ta'aziyah District.
The report further noted the implementation of an electricity network in Mawiyah District, and the rehabilitation of the al-Ghawl well in al-Rahdah and its connection to the public network, benefiting more than 10,000 residents.
The achievements realized in Taiz Governorate over the past year are the result of continuous efforts and follow-up by the governorate leadership, local authorities, and executive office directors in the districts, who are exerting maximum efforts to advance development, reinforce community resilience, and fulfill citizens' aspirations-reflecting strong will, developmental awareness, and effective partnership between the local authority and the community in the battle of construction alongside the battle of steadfastness.
