Sana'a: The Tender Committee of the Capital Sana'a on Tuesday reviewed the envelopes for the construction and implementation of the Agricultural and Fisheries Research Center building at Sana'a University, with an estimated cost of 260 million Yemeni Riyals, funded locally.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee, chaired by Hamoud Al-Naqeeb, Vice President of the Development Team, and attended by the heads of the planning and services committees, Sharf al-Hadi and Adel al-Aqari, along with Abdullah Sharf al-Din, Director of the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Financing Unit, has referred the tender envelopes to the technical analysis committee for a thorough review and evaluation.
Al-Naqeeb highlighted the strategic importance of this project in strengthening scientific research in both the agricultural and fisheries sectors. The initiative is expected to enhance production capacities and support economic empowerment projects aimed at local development.
Dr. Eskender al-Maqalih, Secretary-General of Sana'a University, emphasized that the center will serve as a major research hub. It aims to provide a platform for scientists and researchers to contribute valuable knowledge and innovations, particularly in agricultural and fisheries improvements.
The project is funded by the local authority through the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Financing Unit and aligns with the national goal of achieving food security and self-sufficiency. This is particularly crucial amidst the ongoing economic challenges caused by the war.
Sharf al-Din also stressed the center's role in advancing practical research for both sectors, which will help improve agricultural techniques, enhance value chains, and refine product quality. He described the project as a positive step toward scientific development in agriculture and fisheries, ultimately contributing to self-sufficiency.
