Mukalla: The final stage of the Republic Cup Basketball Championship for men's clubs will kick off tomorrow, Sunday, in the city of Mukalla, Hadramawt, organized by the Yemen Basketball Federation over the course of one week.
According to Yemen News Agency, eight teams qualified from the first stage - which was held in four group tournaments in Sana'a, Aden, Seiyun, and Mukalla - with the top two from each group advancing to the finals. The draw divided the eight finalists into two groups: Group A consists of Shabab Hadramawt (host), Al-Tilal, Seiyun, and Wahdat Sana'a. Group B includes Ahli Sana'a, Al-Mina'a, Mukalla, and Shibam.
Tomorrow's opening day will feature four matches: In Group A, Shabab Hadramawt will face Seiyun, and Al-Tilal will compete against Wahdat Sana'a. In Group B, Mukalla will meet Ahli Sana'a, and Al-Mina'a will take on Shibam.
According to the tournament system, each group will play a round-robin stage to determine the group leader, who will qualify for the final. The championship match will be played in a best-of-three format, with the team winning two games crowned champion.
Anwar Abduldaim, Vice President of the Basketball Federation and head of the supervising committee for the final stage, confirmed that preparations for hosting the competition have been fully completed. He noted that this championship will serve as the conclusion of the 2024-2025 sports season for the federation, praising the cooperation of clubs and institutions in ensuring the success of both the tournament and the season's activities.
