Hadramout:The Ministry of Transport and Public Works has expressed strong condemnation over the use of Al-Rayyan International Airport by Saudi forces as a logistical military base for transporting weapons and military equipment against Yemen.
According to Yemen News Agency, the ministry issued a statement criticizing the conversion of the airport, which was initially intended for civilian purposes such as serving passengers, patients, and students, into a hub for moving missiles, shells, drones, and heavy weapons targeting Yemeni civilians.
The ministry labeled the militarization of the airport as a war crime and a blatant violation of international conventions, emphasizing that those involved should be held accountable in international courts. The statement highlighted the impact on civilians, noting that the closure of the airport to civilian flights and its transformation into a military facility strips thousands of patients, students, and traders of their rights, amounting to collective punishment aimed at the destruction of Yemen's infrastructure.
Furthermore, the ministry called on international organizations and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to denounce the airport's conversion into a military base. It also urged the United Nations to deploy an immediate fact-finding mission to document the military shipments, describing the militarization as criminal and hostile behavior.
