Sana'a: The Ministry of Transport and Public Works announced that total losses across its sectors have exceeded $23.2 billion over 11 years of conflict and blockade, during a press conference held in the capital.
According to Yemen News Agency, at the briefing, Minister Mohammed Qahim said the damages affected transport systems and infrastructure nationwide, describing the figures as reflecting both the scale of destruction and ongoing recovery efforts. An official report highlighted that losses in land, sea, and air transport sectors reached over $19.1 billion, while road sector damages totaled more than $4 billion.
The report detailed extensive destruction to airports, ports, roads, and bridges, including damage to more than 8,000 kilometers of roads and over 100 bridges. It also cited significant losses to national carriers, maritime facilities, and civil aviation infrastructure, alongside continued restrictions affecting travel and logistics.
Officials added that reconstruction efforts are ongoing despite challenges, emphasizing the need to restore critical infrastructure, improve connectivity, and support economic recovery.
