Cairo: Tunisia has officially taken on the Chairmanship of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, as Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Tunisia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, chaired the 166th Session of the Council. During the session, Nafti emphasized Tunisia's commitment to fostering Arab solidarity, bridging differences, and advancing collective Arab action.
According to African Press Organization, Nafti outlined key regional issues and challenges, reaffirming Tunisia's support for the Palestinian cause. He stressed the necessity of the Palestinian people's recovery of their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. Nafti also expressed solidarity with Syria and Lebanon, condemned recent attacks on their territories, and emphasized the importance of respecting their sovereignty.
Nafti further addressed Libya, Sudan, and Yemen, advocating for solutions that preserve their unity and sovereignty. He expressed Tunisia's support for Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Iraq against threats to their sovereignty and stability. He called for enhanced coordination among Arab states to tackle security challenges and emphasized adherence to principles of non-interference and respect for sovereignty.
In his address, Nafti highlighted Tunisia's role in Arab development, recalling the Arab High-Level Preparatory Meeting for the Second World Summit for Social Development hosted by Tunisia. He also noted Tunisia's receipt of the Arab Government Excellence Award in education and its leadership in the Arab Board of Health Specializations.
Nafti celebrated Tunisia's designation as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2027, viewing it as an opportunity to bolster tourism and cultural collaboration across the Arab world. He concluded by affirming Tunisia's commitment to active participation in joint Arab action and cooperation with the League's Secretary-General and member states.
Arab delegations at the meeting praised Tunisia's role in supporting joint Arab efforts and expressed confidence in its Chairmanship. They hope Tunisia's leadership will facilitate dialogue, consultation, and unity among Arab nations.
On the sidelines, Nafti held discussions with Arab counterparts to explore bilateral relations and cooperation mechanisms, in preparation for upcoming bilateral engagements.
