Washington: U.S. Treasury Department data showed that the US public debt has exceeded $37 trillion for the first time ever, while the administration of President Donald Trump affirms its commitment to repaying this record debt in full.
According to Yemen News Agency, data released Tuesday revealed that the US public debt reached approximately $37 trillion and nearly $5 trillion on August 11, setting a new record for government borrowing.
The data indicated that the debt has increased by approximately $1.5 trillion since the beginning of Trump's second term in January 2025. The US Treasury Department announced last January that the US public debt had exceeded $34 trillion for the first time.
It is worth noting that the issue of the US debt ceiling has caused deep disagreements between the Republican and Democratic parties. Republicans strongly oppose raising the government debt, while Democrats believe that raising the debt ceiling is sometimes necessary to maintain the US government's operations and enable the United States to meet its financial obligations.
