Sana’a: On this day, March 2, the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression targeted civilians, their properties, and infrastructure in a number of governorates, using internationally prohibited cluster bombs.
According to Yemen News Agency, on March 2, 2016, the aggression’s warplanes launched five airstrikes on the quarries near the Community College in the Sarf area of Bani Hashish district in Sana’a governorate. This resulted in severe damage to nearby residential neighborhoods. The warplanes also targeted Al-Hatha, Al-Madarij, and Bani Shakwan in Nihm district, causing significant damage to agricultural lands and homes. In Sa’ada governorate, the water project in Barkan area was targeted, along with multiple other areas, using both airstrikes and artillery shelling.
In Al-Jawf governorate, Marib, Hajjah, and several other governorates, various districts were subjected to intense airstrikes, damaging infrastructure and causing casualties. On March 2, 2017, airstrikes in Dhamar governorate resulted in the death of three citizens and injuries to four others, including children. Sa’ada governorate bore the brunt of cluster bomb attacks, while other regions faced artillery shelling.
The aggression continued over the years, with significant incidents reported each March 2. In 2018, a child was injured from bomb remnants in Sa’ada, and multiple districts were targeted by airstrikes and artillery. By 2019, hostilities escalated with mercenaries shelling various areas, including Al-Hodeida governorate, causing widespread destruction to civilian properties and farms.
On March 2, 2020, artillery and gunfire from mercenaries resulted in the deaths and injuries of civilians in Al-Hodeida. Displaced persons’ camps in Marib were targeted in 2021, leading to the loss of livestock. The following year, airstrikes and artillery shelling continued to ravage multiple governorates, affecting both infrastructure and civilian lives.
Most recently, on March 2, 2023, Hays district in Al-Hodeida governorate experienced an airstrike by spy planes, accompanied by artillery shelling from mercenaries. The persistent aggression has left a lasting impact on the region, with repeated violations of international laws and continued suffering for the Yemeni population.
