US-Saudi-Emirati Aggression Marks Grim Anniversaries with Civilian Casualties in Yemen

Sana'a: On this day, April 9, historical accounts reveal the tragic toll of US-Saudi-Emirati airstrikes in Yemen, resulting in the deaths and injuries of dozens of civilians across several governorates.

According to Yemen News Agency, on April 9, 2015, airstrikes targeted a mosque and neighborhoods in Amran city, killing five civilians and wounding over 15 others. The strikes further damaged critical infrastructure, including water tanks, pipelines, and power stations in Sa'ada city.

The aggression continued with airstrikes on Sana'a, Sa'ada, Taiz, and Shabwa, leading to numerous casualties and significant property damage. On April 9, 2016, airstrikes in Taiz governorate killed and wounded dozens, including marginalized individuals in Al-Rawd neighborhood and a family in Al-Dhabab area.

Further, airstrikes in Marib, Jawf, and other regions caused widespread destruction. In 2017, Sana'a International Airport's terminal building suffered severe damage from coalition airstrikes, alongside attacks on multiple districts in Sa'ada and Hajjah governorates.

Continuing the grim pattern, April 9, 2018, saw the deaths of 12 civilians, mostly women and children, in Damnat Khadir, Taiz, as well as casualties in Sa'ada from airstrikes and artillery shelling. Additional airstrikes in Hodeida and Taiz districts exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.

The following year, April 9, 2019, aggression mercenaries targeted various locations in Hodeida with a mix of rocket, artillery, and medium-caliber weapons. In 2020, artillery shelling and missile attacks resulted in civilian fatalities and infrastructural damage primarily in Hodeida and surrounding areas.

The casualty toll persisted on April 9, 2021, with deaths and injuries from airstrikes and artillery shelling across Baydha, Marib, and Sa'ada governorates. In 2022, aggression mercenaries' shelling led to fatalities and injuries in Sa'ada, while reconnaissance aircraft conducted raids in Taiz.

Most recently, on April 9, 2023, reconnaissance aircraft launched raids in Hodeida, and mercenaries built combat fortifications in Taiz, continuing the cycle of violence and instability in the region.
