Sana'a: The General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities and its branch in Al-Jawf Governorate conducted a field study for the implementation of strategic water structures to enhance groundwater recharge in the governorate.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Director General of the Authority's branch in the governorate, Engineer Ghalib Kazman, along with an engineering and technical team assigned by the Authority's presidency, carried out a field visit to the Al-Khard area extending across the districts of Al-Matammah and Al-Maslub to conduct technical studies and preliminary topographic surveys for a number of strategic water structure projects in Al-Jawf.

The field work included studying the implementation of water barriers, identifying sites for the construction of storage lakes, and digging diversion channels to utilize flood flows and rainwater for groundwater recharge, reducing the decline in well water levels, and providing supplementary irrigation sources to serve the agricultural sector in the two districts.

The Director General of the branch, Kazman, explained that the technical study is being carried out under the direct supervision of the Head of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities, Engineer Hadi Qari'ah, as part of the Authority's efforts to utilize rainwater and floods and transform them into sustainable development projects, supporting agricultural expansion and preserving water resources.

He pointed out that the team's work included evaluating the natural pathways of watercourses and their carrying capacity, to ensure the protection of agricultural lands and local communities from the risks of soil erosion and floods, and to enhance the efficiency of water resource management in the region.

For his part, the assigned engineering and technical team reported that the results of the technical studies and topographic surveys will contribute to preparing technical concepts for the implementation of projects according to priority needs, thereby strengthening agricultural and water development efforts in Al-Jawf Governorate.
