Sanaa: Undersecretary of the International Cooperation Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ismail al-Mutawakel, met with WFP Special Envoy to Yemen Abdullah al-Wardat, who offered his condolences for the crime that targeted the Prime Minister of the Government of Change and Construction and his companions.
According to Yemen News Agency, during the meeting, Ambassador al-Mutawakel emphasized that the targeting of the Prime Minister and his companions was not just a crime against political figures but a direct attack on their symbolic legal immunity, breaching international norms and conventions. He highlighted the ongoing situation in Gaza as evidence of the international community's silence regarding crimes against the people, affirming Yemen's continued support for Gaza until the aggression ceases and civilian casualties end.
Al-Mutawakel expressed regret that the United Nations has not yet issued a clear condemnation of the crime, suggesting that this silence raises suspicions and potentially encourages the aggressor to persist in its violations. He assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will maintain coordination efforts with the World Food Programme and other international partners to bolster the humanitarian response. He urged UN and international organizations to adopt firmer stances and uphold the principles of justice and humanity.
In response, WFP Special Envoy Alwardat expressed deep sorrow over the incident, condemning the attack on the Prime Minister and his companions as a violation of humanitarian values and principles. He reiterated the WFP's commitment to its humanitarian activities in Yemen, aiming to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people despite the current challenges and difficult circumstances.
