Al-hodeidah: The Yarmouk Sports Club team from the Commercial District in Al-Hodeidah emerged victorious against Al-Aqsa Club in the opening match of the football tournament for the Martyr Major General Mohammed Abdelkarim Al-Ghamari Cup. The thrilling match concluded with Yarmouk winning in a penalty shootout after the game ended in a 1-1 draw during regular time.
According to Yemen News Agency, the tournament is organized under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the local authority leadership, and the provincial Youth Office. It features 16 popular teams competing in a knockout format, honoring the legacy and contributions of Martyr Al-Ghamari to the nation and military service.
Following the match, several dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Mohammed Halisi, Director of the Provincial Youth and Sports Office Imad Al-Barai, Local Secretary of Al-Mina Hassan Rasmi, Secretary of the Football Association Branch Ahmed Al-Rajwi, and Head of the Volleyball Association Branch Ismail Abu Hadi, awarded Yarmouk the opening match cup. The event took place in front of a large crowd at the Imam Ali School yard.
The tournament is part of a series of sports activities aimed at promoting competition and honoring the memory of the martyrs. It will continue with successive matches among the participating teams until the eventual champion is crowned with the Martyr Al-Ghamari Cup.
