Yemen Government Supports Al-Azhar Sheikh’s Call for Muslim Unity

Sana’a:Government spokesman Dr. Omar Al-Bukhaiti has expressed strong support for Al-Azhar Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb’s call to end wars and divisions among Muslims, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing brotherhood and religious ties.

According to Yemen News Agency, Dr. Al-Bukhaiti highlighted that the call aligns with the interests of the Muslim nation by safeguarding resources and strengthening unity against perceived threats from Israel and the United States, who are purportedly aiming to reshape the Middle East. He noted that Yemen’s government and people have consistently backed fair peace initiatives and have actively sought an honorable peace, despite opposition from Saudi forces.

Dr. Al-Bukhaiti detailed the impact of what he described as an unjustified attack on Yemen, which has resulted in significant human and material losses over 12 years, including the deaths of over 40,000 people, largely women and children. The blockade, he added, has further exacerbated the situation, leading to more than 1.4 million deaths due to lack of medical resources and restricted travel for treatment.

He reiterated Sana’a’s openness to engaging with Al-Azhar’s initiative, expressing willingness to host relevant delegations. Dr. Al-Bukhaiti emphasized that Yemen views war as a last resort for resolving disputes and hopes for positive responses to the initiative, which aims to foster reconciliation and strengthen ties among Muslim nations for the greater good of the Arab and Islamic worlds.
