Sanaa: The Yemeni army said on Thursday evening that 50 members of the Houthi group were killed or injured after it thwarted an attack aimed at taking control of a road linking the cities of Taiz and Mocha in western Yemen, Anadolu Ajansi reported. According to Nam News Network, the army's Taiz Axis command stated that the Houthi attack targeted the Maqbanah and Al-Kadhah fronts, aiming to seize control of the strategic road linking Taiz and Mocha in western Yemen. In response, Taiz Axis forces and the government-aligned National Resistance launched a joint counterattack targeting Houthi positions on these fronts. The statement detailed that the clashes resulted in 50 Houthis dead or wounded, though it did not provide further specifics. Earlier in the day, the Yemeni army had announced the capture of military positions from the Houthis following clashes in Taiz's southwestern province. The Taiz front witnessed military escalation on Thursday, characterized by attacks involving ballistic missiles, drones, a nd ground clashes in the al-Kadhah, Maqbanah, and Mawza districts in the province's western areas. This escalation is considered one of the most significant rounds of fighting in Taiz since a UN-brokered truce in 2022, amid UN warnings about the risk of Yemen sliding back into a broader conflict. The Houthis have maintained control over the capital Sanaa and other cities since September 2014, while the internationally recognized government and allied forces control vast areas in the south, east, and west of the country.
