Yemeni Chambers Condemn Targeting of Private Sector Factories

Sanaa:The General Union of Yemeni Chambers of Commerce and Industry, along with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Capital Municipality of Sanaa and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sanaa Governorate, has condemned recent airstrikes by Saudi aircraft on private sector facilities and factories in Yemen. These attacks have reportedly resulted in significant damage and loss of life.

According to Yemen News Agency, the union and chambers stated that these attacks are a blatant violation of international treaties and agreements designed to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure during conflicts. They emphasized the importance of adhering to such agreements to prevent harm to non-combatants and their properties.

The Yemeni private sector had previously declared its neutrality in the ongoing conflict during a press conference in March 2016. This neutral stance was intended to safeguard essential resources and ensure the continued provision of food and medicine to all Yemeni people, irrespective of the ongoing war.

The union and chambers further urged for the exclusion of economic and industrial facilities from the conflict, emphasizing the need to protect national capital and the workforce. They called for support to rehabilitate affected facilities to preserve national production capabilities and the civil and livelihood interests of Yemeni citizens.
