Sana'a:Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Yemen, Sheikh Yahya Al-Ra'i, has sent an urgent message to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and its members. In his communication, Al-Ra'i expressed strong condemnation of what he describes as biased and selective positions taken by the European Parliament concerning the conflict in Yemen.
According to Yemen News Agency, the letter criticizes the European Parliament for allegedly siding with the Saudi perspective in the ongoing conflict, accusing it of adopting double standards and failing to uphold democratic and human rights values. Al-Ra'i highlighted the European Parliament's statements as ignoring the prolonged suffering and aggression faced by the Yemeni people at the hands of Saudi forces and their allies.
The message further detailed the human toll of the conflict, citing reports of nearly 60,000 direct civilian casualties since March 2015, including significant numbers of martyred and injured children and women. Additionally, Al-Ra'i pointed out the devastating effects of the blockade, which has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, leading to widespread malnutrition and disease, resulting in over 1,400,000 deaths.
Al-Ra'i also accused the Saudi regime of targeting displacement centers, imposing sieges, and interfering in Yemen's internal affairs. He emphasized Yemen's commitment to the security of international navigation and called for the European Parliament to recognize the grievances of the Yemeni people. The Speaker invited the European Parliament to send a delegation to Yemen to witness the destruction and suffering firsthand.
