Sana’a: The General Secretariat of the Union of Yemeni Writers and Writers mourned the death of Saleh Ba’amer, who passed away at the age of 78, during which he contributed to Yemeni literature with a wealth of creative works.
According to Yemen News Agency, the obituary statement praised the late author’s legacy of publications that represent qualitative additions to the Yemeni narrative, especially in the field of short stories and novels. His departure is a great loss to contemporary Yemeni literature.
The statement expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to his family and all his colleagues, friends, and lovers. The union prayed for God Almighty to have mercy and forgiveness on the deceased and to grant his family and relatives patience and solace.
Saleh Ba’amer held many tasks and positions throughout his career. Most notably, he served as Director of Aden Radio and Television in 1970, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Sharara newspaper in Mukalla in 1974, Director of the Culture Office in Hadramawt Province in 1990, Editor-in-Chief of Afaq magazine issued by the Yemeni Writers and Writers Union branch in Hadramawt in 1994, 2002, and 2003, and Editor-in-Chief of Mukalla magazine issued by the Ministry of Culture office in Mukalla.
His story “Dancing by Moonlight” was translated into English and included in an anthology of modern Arabic literature in 1988. He published five story collections, which include The Dream of a Yemeni Mother (1983), Dahum al-Mashqasi (1993), The Possibilities of Change (2002), When the Palace Spoke (2005), and Far from Protocol (2004).
In addition, Ba’amer authored six novels: Al-Samsam, Mukalla, It’s the Sea, Queen of the Nasser, Light Winks, and The Return of the Wanderers.
