Yemen’s Support for Gaza and Confrontation with Global Powers: A Historic Victory and Lesson

General

Sanaa: Yemen has set an example for Arab and Islamic nations, as well as the global community, by standing firm against the powers it labels as global arrogance: the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel. Yemen has shown unwavering support for the Gaza Strip, currently facing severe challenges, including genocide and systematic starvation. Simultaneously, Yemen claims a significant victory over one of the harshest aggressions it has encountered in its modern history.

According to Yemen News Agency, despite facing intense aggression from these global powers, Yemen's support for Gaza has not wavered. Instead, it has presented a profound humanitarian example to the world. Yemen has remained committed to its religious and moral obligations towards what it perceives as the greatest ongoing tragedy, surpassing even nations with closer ethnic and religious ties.

Yemen attributes its recent victory to divine grace and its leadership's wisdom, claiming that after a prolonged escalation, the United States requested a cessation of Yemeni attacks in exchange for halting its aggression. Yemen interprets this as a retreat by the U.S., which it believes has abandoned support for Israel, marking an unprecedented victory.

Yemen's leadership, spearheaded by Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, has emphasized its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, either through strikes into occupied territories or by blockading Israeli vessels. In a speech, Sayyed Abdul-Malik highlighted the resilience of the Yemeni military and the public's unwavering determination, despite intensified American airstrikes and naval bombardment. He stated that the American failure to influence Yemen's capabilities led them to propose halting their aggression.

The Yemeni Armed Forces have conducted over 131 operations using ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles and drones, targeting various Israeli locations, including Ben Gurion Airport. The airport strike, carried out with a hypersonic missile, led to its closure and suspension of flights, marking a significant moment in Yemen's escalating support for Gaza.

As part of its escalation strategy, Yemen announced a ban on air navigation to and from Israeli airports, effective from May 4, 2025. This decision coincided with several international airlines suspending flights to Tel Aviv, amid concerns of regional escalation. Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson, confirmed that all Israeli airports are now within Yemeni targeting range.

Yemen's airspace ban, following the strike on Ben Gurion Airport, aligns with its escalating support for Gaza, now entering its fifth phase. The decision has led to widespread flight suspensions and cancellations, leaving thousands of Israeli passengers stranded. Media reports from Israel highlighted the growing complexity and concerns surrounding Israeli airport operations due to Yemeni missile threats. Channel 12 warned of potential impacts on the summer travel season, posing economic challenges to Israel.
