Sana'a: The Public Prosecution and the Presidential Committee have approved the release of 82 prisoners, comprising both convicts and detainees under investigation by the Specialized Criminal Prosecution in Sana'a.
According to Yemen News Agency, the decisions came after a field visit by the joint committee to the Central Correctional Facility earlier this week. The visit aimed to review prisoners' cases, assist those eligible for amnesty, and address legal issues in some cases.
Jihad Ghathaya, Director General of the Department of Prison and Prisoner Affairs at the Presidency, stated that the release decisions are part of an ongoing effort led by Revolution Leader Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi and the President of the Supreme Political Council to focus on prisoners' human rights. The field visit involved verifying prisoner lists against detention orders and judicial decisions to ensure legal requirements for release were met.
Ghathaya noted that those released had served half or three-quarters of their sentences and had no previous criminal records. The committee also reviewed cases under investigation, ensuring necessary legal guarantees for release.
He emphasized that field visits to prisons aim to expedite case processing and resolution, ensuring justice and alleviating the suffering of prisoners and their families. Ghathaya also commended the Attorney General's dedication to following up on the committee's work to expedite case action, protect rights and freedoms, and achieve justice.
