Sanaa: Acting Prime Minister scholMohammed Muftah took part in the launch of the Unified National Baseline for Economic Indicators, designed to standardize the reference system for measuring economic performance across the state, sectors, and governorates.
According to Yemen News Agency, the workshop was organized by the Policies, Studies, and Planning Sector at the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Investment, with participation from relevant government entities. In his opening remarks, the Acting Prime Minister stressed the importance of the workshop in producing baseline plans for all sectors and preparing for the future based on accurate, comprehensive, and realistic data.
He emphasized the need for an integrated vision for all governorates, including those under occupation, and incorporating them into national statistics. He affirmed that Yemen remains socially and popularly united despite external attempts to divide it. Muftah stated, 'Yemen's destiny is one, and we will not allow it to be fragmented.' He underscored the need for strong coordination among all relevant institutions to ensure reliable data for planning the country's development, confronting hostile media misinformation, and countering efforts aimed at obstructing progress.
Acting Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment Sam Al-Basheeri noted that the workshop aligns with the government's agenda for reform and development. He highlighted the importance of incorporating feedback and enriching the indicators to improve planning accuracy. He added that unifying economic reference points and indicators is crucial for developing medium- and long-term development plans and providing reliable data to decision-makers. Unified, transparent, and credible data, he noted, strengthens national economic performance and boosts investor confidence.
Deputy Minister of Economy for Policies, Studies, and Planning, Fouad Al-Junaid, stressed the importance of the state developing its own tools to measure progress and challenges. He described the launch of the unified economic baseline as a step toward reclaiming the country's economic memory and ending data fragmentation and misinformation. He noted that the workshop represents the starting point for a long-term national effort to establish sustainable mechanisms for data collection and continuous updating of economic indicators.
Deputy Minister of Information for Relations Sector, Mohammed Mansour, highlighted the role of media participation in economic events to ensure the achievement of desired outcomes and build public engagement with economic plans and programs. The event was attended by Deputy Ministers of Economy for Industry and Economic Zones, Engineer Sami Maqbooli, and for Foreign Trade and Export Development, Fouad Huwaidi, as well as the Executive Director of the Yemen Standards, Metrology, and Quality Control Organization, Abdullah Al-Atfi.
Assistant Deputy Director of the Prime Minister's Office for Planning, Ali Al-Mutamayez, praised the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Investment for launching the economic indicators baseline, emphasizing the need for cooperation among all parties, since responsibility is collective and not limited to a single institution. Representing the private sector, Vice President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mohammed Salah, stressed the importance of launching the baseline to enhance investment, noting that the private sector cannot build feasibility studies for future projects using outdated data.
The workshop also included presentations on the implementation stages of the project, key economic indicators, targeted domains, and sample indicators at the macro, sectoral, and governorate levels.
