Agreement Reached for Expansion of Al Hodeidah’s Northern Entrance

Hodeidah: An agreement for the implementation of the project to expand and rehabilitate the Sham Line (the northern entrance to Al Hodeidah city) was signed in Hodeidah Governorate today, between the local authority of the governorate and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, represented by the Road Maintenance Fund.

According to Yemen News Agency, the agreement was signed by the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mohammed Qahim; the Governor of Hodeidah, Abdullah Atifi; and the Deputy Minister for the Roads Sector and Head of the Road Maintenance Fund, Engineer Nabil Al-Haifi. It includes the expansion and asphalting of the second lane of the road over a length of 15 kilometers, making it a dual carriageway, with the construction of central islands, lighting, and afforestation works. The project is set at a total cost of 2.5 billion Yemeni riyals, funded equally by the local authority and the fund.

After the signing, the Minister of Transport and Public Works emphasized that the project aligns with the national vision matrix and follows directives from the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council to focus on Hodeidah city and enhance its main entrances.

The Minister elaborated on the project's benefits, stating that transforming the Sham Line into a dual carriageway will help ease the burden on travelers, lower traffic accidents, and improve the movement of transport trucks and freight to and from the port of Hodeidah.

Governor Atifi highlighted the significance of the collaboration between the local authority and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works in executing service and development projects. He stated that these efforts contribute to advancing the province's infrastructure and achieving sustainable development, positively impacting citizens' lives.

He described the project as a critical connector for the province to the northern districts and neighboring provinces, reaffirming the province's commitment to facilitating the project's completion according to approved technical specifications and within the designated timeframe.

Deputy Minister and Head of the Road Maintenance Fund, Engineer Nabil Al-Haifi, stated that the fund prioritizes main city entrances in its current year plans. He assured that the project will meet high engineering standards and specifications to ensure road durability, user safety, and smooth commercial and civilian transport.

Al-Haifi mentioned that the works will include asphalting the second lane, constructing sidewalks, and providing lighting, enhancing the aesthetic and organized appearance of Al Hodeidah's northern entrance. He commended the coordination level with the local authority to fund and complete this strategic project.

Engineer Mohammed Muthanna, Director of the Works Office in the province, reviewed the project's technical aspects, noting its potential to significantly advance the province's road network. He confirmed the office's readiness and the technical teams' commitment to begin implementation and oversee the project's progress.
