Hodeidah: The Ain Humanitarian Center for Rights and Development condemned the crimes committed by Saudi-backed mercenaries against civilians in the governorates of Hodeidah and Taiz, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of several citizens, in violation of international humanitarian law and the rules for the protection of civilians during armed conflicts.
According to Yemen News Agency, the center explained that Saudi-backed mercenaries shelled a civilian’s home in the Al-Jarahi district of Hodeidah Governorate, targeting a family inside their home. This attack resulted in the martyrdom of an elderly man and his daughter, and serious injuries to his wife and a relative. The statement noted the continued crimes against civilians in Taiz Governorate, where citizen Mohammed Abdullah Ali Saif was killed by sniper fire in the village of Al-Kuraifat in Sabr Al-Mawadim District. Additionally, a shell fired by mercenaries at Wadi Al-Hussein in Khadir District resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to another.
The statement emphasized that these crimes are not isolated incidents or collateral damage, but serious and systematic violations against civilians. They reveal a continued policy of targeting innocent civilians and terrorizing families in their homes and residential areas, under the cover of international impunity and the absence of accountability.
It held the Saudi-led coalition’s mercenaries fully responsible for these crimes and their humanitarian, psychological, and material consequences. The statement also held the countries and entities supporting and enabling these violations legally and morally responsible for the continuation of these crimes against the Yemeni people.
The center reiterated that protecting civilians is a legally binding obligation under international humanitarian law. It emphasized that targeting homes and civilian populations, deliberately sniping at civilians, and indiscriminate shelling of populated areas are acts that warrant investigation, accountability, and legal prosecution.
The center also affirmed its commitment to monitor and document violations and crimes committed against civilians, ensuring that the victims’ blood does not become forgotten statistics in the annals of war.
