Sana'a: The Minister of Oil and Minerals, Dr. Abdullah Al-Amir, engaged in discussions with the Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water, Adel Bader, focusing on the critical task of securing the electricity sector's requirements for petroleum derivatives.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting included participation from key figures such as the Deputy Executive Director for Financial and Administrative Affairs at the Yemen Petroleum Company (YPC), Osama Al-Khatib, and the Deputy Director General of the Public Electricity Corporation (PEC), Abdullah Qurada. The participants examined strategies for delivering emergency fuel supplies to the Al-Jawf Governorate power plant to maintain its operations. They also evaluated the progress of the solar energy project intended for the governorate.
Additionally, the discussions explored the development of a functional mechanism to resolve the outstanding debts of the Public Electricity Corporation to the Yemen Petroleum Company, aligning with an agreed-upon framework to ensure the steady delivery of fuel to power generation facilities.
The meeting further addressed the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract aimed at supplying fuel for fossil fuel plants, which is expected to enhance energy resources through private sector involvement, with eventual state ownership. There was also dialogue on providing fuel to local water and sanitation entities in line with their operational agendas, ensuring the functionality of water well stations for uninterrupted water services to citizens.
Dr. Al-Amir reiterated the ministry's commitment to bolstering the electricity sector, acknowledging its pivotal role in citizens' daily lives. He highlighted the need for enhanced collaboration and coordination among relevant bodies to devise effective solutions that ensure stable electricity services and a consistent supply of petroleum derivatives for power plants.
Deputy Minister Bader expressed gratitude for the support from the Ministry of Oil and Minerals and the Yemen Petroleum Company towards the Ministry and Corporation of Electricity, particularly in fuel provisions for generation plants. He emphasized the necessity of sustained cooperative efforts to overcome existing challenges, thereby securing stable electrical services and fulfilling the needs of citizens in various governorates.
