Al-Bayda Discusses Strengthening Awareness Measures to Contain Cholera Outbreak

Al-Bayda: A meeting held on Tuesday in Al-Bayda Province, chaired by Governor Abdullah Idris, focused on enhancing awareness measures and procedures to contain an outbreak of acute watery diarrhea, identified as cholera.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting addressed steps to coordinate among all relevant offices to develop an emergency response plan, activate awareness campaigns, and ensure readiness of all health centers to receive cases. An operations room will be established to manage all reported cases effectively.

The meeting approved deploying surveillance and response teams to investigate the sources and causes of the outbreak. As part of these efforts, samples from well water and vegetables sold in markets will be collected to limit the spread of the disease.

Dr. Mujahid Al-Khatri, Director of the Health and Environment Office, presented a report on the executive plan to contain and combat cholera, aiming to reduce fatalities and infections to the lowest possible level. He reported that suspected cases from January to June 2025 reached 498, including three deaths.

Governor Idris emphasized the need for unified and intensified efforts to protect the community from epidemics, especially in light of the emergence of acute watery diarrhea cases. He urged all relevant sectors, offices, and stakeholders to fulfill their health, awareness, and guidance roles, underlining a sense of religious, national, and humanitarian responsibility. He called for teamwork to safeguard public health and warned against negligence, stating that this is a collective responsibility.
