Sana'a: Acting Al-Dhale' Governor Abdul Latif Al-Shaghdari recently honored several Civil Defense and Red Crescent personnel for their crucial involvement in the recovery of a young climber, Al-Qa'qaa, from a volcanic sinkhole in Damt. The operation was recognized for its complexity and the exceptional efforts of those involved.
According to Yemen News Agency, Governor Al-Shaghdari highlighted the operation as one of the most challenging rescue missions undertaken by the team, who successfully retrieved the body from a depth of 30 meters underwater within the volcanic crater. The mission required descending over 120 meters around the sinkhole, with the hazardous terrain adding to the difficulty of the task.
Governor Al-Shaghdari commended the divers for their bravery and unwavering dedication, which demonstrated a strong humanitarian and national commitment. He also acknowledged the cooperation of Damt District's security authorities and local residents who assisted throughout the search and recovery efforts.
In addition to the rescuers, the Acting Governor honored several executive office directors for their exemplary performance during the year 1447 AH. Journalists and social media activists were also recognized for their national contributions in reporting the facts of the Al-Qa'qaa incident and offering constructive criticism aimed at enhancing performance rather than defamation.
