Al-jawf: An expanded meeting in Al-Matammah District of Al-Jawf Governorate discussed procedures for establishing and activating an agricultural cooperative association in the district, as well as mechanisms for increasing its capital.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was attended by Bonyan Development Foundation's Northeast Region Coordinator Khaled Al-Muayyad, Sixth Military Region representative Ali Obeid, Al-Matammah District Director Mabrouk Al-Khawar, and Head of the Agricultural Cooperative Union branch in the governorate Zaid Askar. They reviewed the role of cooperative associations in services, marketing, and various development sectors aimed at achieving sustainable local development and self-sufficiency.
Participants also discussed ways to address challenges faced by previous associations, reviewed the work of the current preparatory committees, and identified strengths that could be reinforced to ensure success. The meeting, attended by Deputy Head of the Agricultural Sector in the governorate Jassas Shabrin, Director of the Emergency Development Interventions Unit Mukhtar Thawabah, and Bonyan Foundation Coordinator in Al-Jawf Abdulhamid Abu Ali, examined successful experiences of model cooperative associations in several districts and emphasized the importance of integrating official and community efforts to ensure the successful establishment of the association.
The participants stressed the need to expand public awareness of cooperative work through mosque preachers, schools, and community gatherings. The meeting concluded with several procedural measures, most notably the formation of a field team headed by the district director to conduct a 15-day outreach campaign across sub-districts and villages to mobilize community contributions and encourage membership in the association.
The participants also assigned the team to coordinate with the previous preparatory committee to inventory financial contributions and assets in its possession and transfer them to the account of the new preparatory committee. The committee chairman was tasked with organizing all shareholder data into structured Excel files. The meeting further emphasized coordination with the governorate's agricultural extension sector to provide guidance materials for preachers and educators highlighting the importance of cooperative associations for wider dissemination.
