Al-Kareem & Al-Bukhaiti Discuss Ways to Develop Agricultural Education

Sana'a: A meeting held on Monday in Sana'a brought together the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Ammar Al-Kareem, and the President of Sana'a University, Dr. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, to discuss ways to develop agricultural education and enhance its role in meeting current needs and labor market requirements.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was attended by the Ministry's Undersecretaries for the Plant Production Sector, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sarraji, and for Services and Support, Murad Al-Shaif. The Acting Minister stressed the importance of evaluating the curricula adopted by faculties of agriculture and assessing their alignment with Yemen's agricultural and environmental realities. He emphasized the need to update scientific concepts in a manner consistent with the local environment and responsive to labor market demands.

Al-Kareem underscored the necessity of activating practical laboratories and ensuring their efficient operation, as well as exerting all efforts to update and develop curricula to achieve integration between academic and field aspects. He also highlighted the vital role of academic staff in the success of the educational process, urging the provision of practical experience for students in areas such as productivity, farmer mobilization, and knowledge exchange, thereby enhancing their readiness for fieldwork after graduation.

For his part, the President of Sana'a University affirmed that the university places great importance on developing agricultural education. He noted plans to establish a higher joint coordination committee between the two sides to review study plans, organize field visits for students, and build effective partnerships with relevant entities. He emphasized the importance of cooperation to advance the educational process, strengthen scientific research, students' graduation projects, and update the College of Agriculture's plans in line with field needs and agricultural development requirements.

Following the meeting, the Acting Minister of Agriculture and the President of Sana'a University, along with the ministry's undersecretaries Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sarraji, Murad Al-Shaif, the Undersecretary for the Livestock Sector Dr. Abdulraouf Al-Shawkani, and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment Dr. Adel Al-Washli, toured several of the college's facilities. They reviewed classrooms, laboratories, the level of technical equipment, and the college's needs to develop its educational and practical infrastructure in a way that contributes to improving agricultural education outcomes and linking them to field realities.
