Sana'a: A meeting held in Sana'a on Saturday, chaired by Supreme Political Council member Mohammed Al-Nuaimi, focused on developing a comprehensive national strategy to tackle smuggling in the agricultural sector. The meeting aimed at reviewing general frameworks and analytical visions to combat smuggling, which poses significant risks to local production and the broader national economy.
According to Yemen News Agency, the session was attended by Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources Ammar Al-Kareem and members of the technical committee responsible for drafting the strategy. Participants examined the health and environmental dangers linked to unauthorized pesticides and agricultural inputs entering the market.
Al-Nuaimi emphasized the need for collaboration among relevant authorities and coordination between official bodies and security agencies to implement strict measures. These efforts are crucial to protect local agricultural production and support farmers, with the ultimate goal of achieving food security and economic independence.
Acting Minister Ammar Al-Kareem highlighted the ministry's commitment to prioritizing the strategy's preparation. He underscored the necessity of establishing precise regulations and requirements to bolster oversight at entry points and markets, preventing the distribution of harmful or non-compliant agricultural materials.
