Sana'a: Acting Prime Minister Allama Muftah reviewed the Medical Council's activities during a meeting with the Council's Chairman, Dr. Abdulkarim Shaiban.
According to Yemen News Agency, Dr. Shaiban briefed Muftah on the council's work and its role in promoting medical ethics. He explained that the council undertakes a supervisory role aimed at reducing medical errors through continuous inspection of medical facilities, alongside conducting investigations into any violations by medical staff and taking disciplinary action when necessary.
Dr. Shaiban further highlighted the council's responsibilities in verifying that medical and health personnel have the required academic qualifications before being granted licenses to practice. He also emphasized the importance of ongoing training for workers in the medical field, which has direct implications for human life. Additionally, he noted the challenges facing the council and discussed ways to address them, including the need for government support.
During the meeting, the Acting Prime Minister stressed the council's legal and ethical responsibility to support the government's efforts in developing the medical profession, maintaining its ethics, and ensuring zero tolerance for medical errors. He underscored the importance of the council's supervisory and oversight role over all medical facilities and the need to confront unqualified practitioners and negative practices that impact the profession's standing in Yemen.
Muftah affirmed the government's commitment to supporting the council in its duties to advance the medical profession. He praised the strong level of medicine in Yemen across many specialties and the distinguished, competent doctors who compete internationally.
