The discussions aimed at enhancing health and veterinary oversight, improving service delivery, and regulating meat markets while safeguarding livestock resources.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting convened officials from the governorate's finance office and the authority's branch management. It reviewed the challenges faced by the branch in health, veterinary, and regulatory areas, aligning with ongoing efforts to boost food safety and organize the meat sector in the region. Attendees assessed the branch's operational and inspection activities, including health and veterinary supervision of slaughterhouses, as well as the procedures for inspecting livestock and poultry to ensure their safety for human consumption.
Discussions also covered field monitoring mechanisms for meat markets and butcher shops, compliance with health requirements, and legal revenue collection procedures as per applicable laws. These efforts aim to improve institutional and service performance. Governor Juma'an stressed the importance of strict adherence to regulations, particularly regarding revenue collection and market oversight, and called for firm action against health or veterinary violations.
Governor Juma'an also advocated for a ban on the slaughter of young and female livestock to preserve animal resources, highlighting this as a priority for ensuring livestock sustainability and strengthening food security. He urged increased field inspections and continuous monitoring of slaughterhouses and meat shops to ensure adherence to health standards, preventing the sale of unfit meat to protect public health.
