Amran: The Water Basin Committee in Amran governorate convened under the leadership of Governor Dr. Faisal Juma'an to evaluate several applications for drilling new water wells and for the deepening and maintenance of existing ones.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee examined the applications and accompanying technical and legal documentation, aiming to regulate water resource usage and protect the groundwater basin from depletion. The meeting resulted in the approval of applications that met necessary technical and legal benchmarks, while others were dismissed for not fulfilling required conditions.
Governor Juma'an emphasized the critical need to adhere to technical and legal standards during the application review process for well drilling and deepening. This approach is vital to safeguarding the water basin, curbing excessive groundwater extraction, and aligning drilling activities with the Water Law and its Executive Regulations.
He also called for enhanced coordination among relevant authorities to combat illegal drilling activities and to pursue legal actions against violators. These measures are intended to protect water resources and ensure their sustainability for future generations, addressing the growing challenges within the water sector.
Dr. Juma'an praised the efforts of the General Authority for Water Resources branch and related entities for their role in monitoring drilling activities, performing field inspections, and implementing measures to preserve water resources, which support sustainable development goals.
Eng. al-Sufyani provided an overview of the applications, detailing the technical and legal requirements and the evaluation procedures, in line with approved standards and regulations. The focus remains on balancing community needs with the protection of groundwater reserves, alongside ongoing efforts to enhance water resource management and prevent the decline in groundwater levels, ultimately safeguarding water security.
