Sana'a: The Cancer Control Fund on Saturday launched its 11th national awareness campaign on the health risks associated with plastic use under the slogan "Prevention Starts with Your Choice." The month-long campaign aims to raise public awareness about the risks of excessive use of plastic bags, cups, and food containers, particularly for storing, serving, or consuming hot food and beverages, due to the potential transfer of harmful chemical compounds into food and the health risks associated with repeated exposure.
According to Yemen News Agency, the campaign includes the dissemination of awareness messages through television, radio, and social media platforms, as well as the production of educational materials promoting healthy behaviors and encouraging the use of safer alternatives to help prevent disease and protect public health.
Chairman of the Fund Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Madani said the campaign is part of a series of national initiatives aimed at raising awareness of cancer risk factors and preventive measures as part of the fund's mission to protect public health and promote a culture of prevention. He stressed that reducing preventable cancer risks requires the combined efforts of government institutions, media outlets, civil society organizations, and individuals, calling on all sectors to actively support the campaign by spreading its awareness messages.
Director of Health Education and Media at the Cancer Control Fund Hussein Al-Junaid said the campaign seeks to encourage safer daily practices by reducing reliance on single-use plastic products and promoting safer alternatives for storing and consuming hot food and beverages. He added that the campaign will deliver simplified health messages through traditional media and digital platforms throughout the month to improve public understanding of the health risks associated with the everyday use of plastic products.
