Sana'a: Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled initiatives on Sunday spanning areas from artificial intelligence to trade, aiming to boost cooperation among the emerging economies of the "Greater BRICS" group. This move comes as Beijing seeks to transform the bloc into a practical platform for the development of Global South nations. According to Yemen News Agency, China's official news agency, Xinhua, quoted Xi as saying during the annual leaders' summit in New Delhi that the success of the "Greater BRICS" initiative depends on laying a solid foundation for practical cooperation. Speaking at the summit's closing session, Xi stated that "Greater BRICS" nations must strengthen cooperation, maintain the stability of industrial and supply chains, and work toward establishing an integrated market. He added that China would spearhead efforts to create an open-source BRICS AI zone to foster collaboration on large language models and AI training, as well as to build an open AI ecosystem. Xi also proposed a partne rship to establish a BRICS special economic zone and noted that Beijing plans to host a BRICS trade-in-services forum next year to bolster trade and investment ties. Cooperation in politics, security, the economy, and finance forms the core focus of the bloc. India-which holds the rotating presidency in 2026-and China-which assumes it in 2027-are both seeking to forge a broader partnership to enhance their global influence.
