Sana'a: The National Free Wrestling Championship for under-17 youth concluded on Thursday in Sana'a. The event was organized by the General Wrestling Federation under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and supported by the Youth and Children Welfare Fund.
According to Yemen News Agency, the championship was officiated by nine referees led by Mohamed Madgha and saw participation from athletes representing the Capital Secretariat and the governorates of Aden, Taiz, Al Hodeidah, Al Mahwit, and Al Bayda. Competitions were held in five weight categories: 38 kg, 45 kg, 48 kg, 51 kg, and 55 kg.
In the 38 kg category, Ahmed Hassan from Al Hodeidah claimed first place, while Abdulrahman Al-Qita'a from the Capital Secretariat finished second. In the 45 kg category, Jalal Abdullah from Al Hudaydah won the title, with Sultan Sabr from the Capital Secretariat taking second place. Fadel Al-Yemeni from the Capital Secretariat secured the championship in the 48 kg category, with Mohamed Omar from Al Hodeidah as runner-up. The 51 kg title went to Anas Mahyoub from the Capital Secretariat, while Ahmed Saif from Aden finished second. In the 55 kg category, Ammar Al-Hamami from the Capital Secretariat won first place, followed by Ahmed Ali from Al Hudaydah.
The closing ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Nabih Nasser and Secretary-General of the Olympic Committee Mohamed Al-Ahjyri. Ali Hadban, Undersecretary for Sports at the Ministry, praised the federation's efforts in organizing a championship that saw wide participation from athletes across the governorates. He also emphasized the Ministry leadership's commitment to supporting the federation's activities to promote wrestling and expand its base of practitioners.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Al-Maghribi, President of the General Wrestling Federation, highlighted that organizing this championship reflects the federation's dedication to discovering young talents, developing their physical and technical abilities, and advancing the sport of wrestling. At the conclusion of the event, in the presence of Abdullah Obeid, Director of the Youth and Sports Office in the Capital Secretariat, and directors of sports, cultural, and social activities at the Ministry - Wael Al-Qurashi, Hamza Saleh, and Mohamed Haj - the winners in the various weight categories were honored with trophies, colorful medals, and monetary awards as encouragement.
