Dhamar: The proceedings of the first scientific conference on addressing addiction challenges in Yemeni society, organized by the College of Medical Sciences at Dhamar University, concluded today.
According to Yemen News Agency, over two days of working sessions, the conference discussed scientific papers, studies, and research presented by a selection of academics, physicians, consultants, educators, and representatives from the judiciary, security apparatuses, and relevant entities. The sessions addressed topics including addiction phenomena, their causes and effects, methods of treatment and prevention, practical solutions to combat their spread, and ways to mitigate their risks and damages.
The conference's themes focused on various addiction phenomena, including internet, pharmaceutical and chemical substance, tobacco, electronic cigarette, qat, and narcotics addictions. It also examined the effects of addiction on the nervous system, pregnancy and childbirth, the cardiovascular system, psychological state, drug metabolism in the human body, biological systems, genetic changes, associated disorders, and their impact on the family and society.
Additionally, the conference addressed health and social challenges, smart and therapeutic solutions, the impact of addiction on youth, legal penalties, and the role of community awareness in combating addiction within the framework of Yemeni legislation.
During the closing session, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hayfi, President of Thamar University, appreciated the efforts of participants, organizing committees, and all who cooperated and contributed to the success of the conference. He mentioned the formation of a committee to draft the conference's final recommendations and to communicate and coordinate with relevant authorities regarding their implementation.
Participants, researchers, organizing committees, and supporting and cooperating entities were honored with shields and certificates of appreciation for their contributions to the conference's success. The conference aimed to enhance community awareness, propose scientific solutions to combat addiction through joint cooperation among health, educational, awareness, and media institutions, activate the family's role, and develop a comprehensive national vision to protect society from addiction and drugs and repair associated damages.
