Sanaa: The Defense and Security Committee of Parliament has continued its deliberations on the draft amendment to Law No. 15 of 2000 concerning the Police Authority. The recent meeting, held on Wednesday, was partially overseen by the Speaker of Parliament, Yahya al-Ra'i, and saw significant participation from various officials and stakeholders.
According to Yemen News Agency, the session was attended by key figures, including Dr. Mahmoud al-Harib, Chairman of the Public Health Committee, Engineer Ali al-Kaboudi, Chairman of the Services Committee, and Abdul Rahman al-Mansour, Assistant Secretary-General of Parliament. The government was represented by Major General Mohammed al-Hakim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Civil Services, alongside other relevant officials. The meeting involved the government providing clarifications on the articles of the draft law.
Speaker Yahya al-Ra'i stressed the necessity of prioritizing the qualification and training of security and police force members to enhance their performance. He highlighted the importance of these efforts in maintaining security, stability, and public order, acknowledging the recent military and security successes achieved under the revolutionary and political leadership. The Speaker also affirmed the Council's openness to proposed draft laws or amendments, provided they align with established constitutional frameworks and serve the public interest.
In the meeting, the Speaker urged the Defense and Security Committee to expedite the completion of its report and deliver its findings on the draft law to the Council. The committee, led by its rapporteur, Major General Ahmed Shayea, proceeded with its discussions and approved the preparation of the final report, which will be submitted to the Council for further deliberation and voting.
